Facebook Book

Am I dumb for thinking that Facebook isn’t the future of the Internet?  I went to a talk last night by some Harvard guys that in all seriousness claimed Facebook would be around forever. Their evidence — Facebook is worth $5-15 million (not sure where that figure came from).

When Apple bit it in the 80s, everyone would have said the same thing about Microsoft. Maybe that’s not a great example…yet. (Vista’s a good start, though.)

I’m not arguing that the mosh pit of apps or sterile redesign will kill it, that’s too short-sighted. People will simply stop using it as much.

Facebook can’t be innovative, that breaks with it’s original branding. The only thing that it can be successful with is profiles and photo sharing, and I don’t see how photo sharing will drive usership.

That means there will be fewer new users, more bored users, and finally a time when we can stop calling Zuckerberg the golden boy.
